Big Schools' Bird Watch

This week Pippin Class participated in the annual Big Schools' Bird Watch for the RSPB. We began by learning about the different birds that we find in Britain, looking carefully at their structure, habitats and diets. We also listened to their different calls so that we could identify the birds even if we couldn't see them. We then went out into our school grounds to identify and classify the birds that we could see and marked them onto our recording sheets.

We had to be extremely quiet and still, so that we didn't disturb any birds. We moved to various locations around the school to see if we could identify anything different. We identified two wood pigeons, two robins, one blackbird and one magpie. Surprisingly, we also spotted six seagulls as well!

At the end, we submitted our results to the RSPB to help scientists learn more about birds, whilst we also discussed why it is important to look after birds and their habitats.
