Football Tournament Report - Years 5 and 6

On Tuesday 18th November, 10 children from Years 5 and 6 went to a football tournament at Buckler's Mead Academy.  In the first match, we won 6-0.  In our second match, we won 2-0.  Unfortunately, we lost the third match because the score was 1-0 to High Ham.  In our penultimate match, we lost against East Coker in the semi-finals.  In our last match, we were playing for 3rd place in the tournament but we lost 2-0.  We were playing against St Barts and we ended up in 4th place.  Everyone got a chance to play because we swapped subs between matches.  Surprisingly, we were the only team with girls.  Altogether, it was a fabulous afternoon and we can't wait for the next tournament.

Raff said, "It was very fun and I'd love to do it again!"

William said, "I really enjoyed it and we did really well!"

Dorothy said, "It was really, really, really fun but it was very cold at the end!"

Cross Country Report - Key Stage 2

On Tuesday 4th November, some children from KS2 travelled to Downside to compete in Cross Country with lots of other local schools.

It was extremely wet, but we didn’t mind and we still tried our best. The Year 3 /4 girls went first, followed by the Year 3/4 boys. They did well for their year groups. After the Year 3/4 boys had finished their race, it was the Year 5 / 6 girls' turn. They all ran really well, even though the ground was very slippery and wet!

I was the only Year 5 boy from Lovington to participate in the race but I did not give up and I had lots of fun. There were lots of different boys there. I came in 45th place.

It was great fun.

Netball Match Report - Years 5 and 6

On Wednesday 26^th March, Years Five and Six competed in a netball tournament at Ansford Academy. At lunchtime, we began our final preparations, then we were ready to go!

During the first half of the first game, our captain was swapped in with our vice-captain, William, who nearly scored an amazing goal, assisted by Evan. The next half was against Ditcheat. We still didn’t concede any goals, thanks to Sandra and Arthur, our goalkeeper and Goal Defence, leaving the final score 0-0.

Next, we played the Kenton B team. I was amazed when they scored, but then our goalshooter, Oscar, scored so many goals – he was on fire! It was amazing as he was ably assisted by Amaia and William.

The last few matches we played were 1-0 to North Cadbury, 1-0 to Castle Cary and 3-0 to Kenton A team. In the end, we didn’t win the tournament, but that didn’t stop us from being a

CROSS COUNTRY

Seven determined runners from Lovington Primary represented the school at the Mendip Primary School Cross Country event on Tuesday 25th March. Everyone finished the course, demonstrating strength and resilience alongside some fantastic places being awarded. Well done, everyone!

Tag Rugby Match Report

On the 22^nd January, Years Five and Six competed in a tag rugby tournament at Ansford Academy. First, our team played against Castle Cary, with a try being scored by Evan, a Year Six pupil. Great effort was seen from everyone, although this match ended up with us losing. During our break, we discussed our formations. Our second match was against Keinton Mandeville. Even though we didn’t score, we didn’t give up! During our match against Evercreech, we had tries scored by Harry, William and Oscar. Encouraging words from our captain kept us going. Whilst we were disappointed not to win, we still had lots of fun!

Father Christmas and Elf Land at Lovington

On Thursday 3rd December, Lovington Primary School paid a visit to a field down the road, where a helicopter from RNAS Yeovilton (a Merlin) was supposed to land. The children began to hear noises and stared up but then realised they were just a motorcycle and a train. After a while, Mr Paddock (the school site manager) heard the faint humming of rotors in the distance. Everyone looked up and there it was. It hovered, blowing everyone’s hoods down and began its descent. “This is so cool!” shouted Raff, his hair blowing back in the wind. After a few moments, it landed. Out of the helicopter a friendly face appeared, it was Father Christmas! “It’s a lot louder than my sleigh, isn’t it?” he asked some children.

His little elf handed out the sweets to the children before Harry, Finty and Raff handed him the letters everyone had written the day before. “Thank you,” he said before jumping back into the helicopter. The children watched the helicopter until it was out of sight, before heading back to their classrooms. “That was incredible!” exclaimed Matteo, the youngest in the school.
