Brush! Brush! Brush!

On Friday, Bramcote Dental Practice came to visit Pippin Class to teach us all about how to look after our teeth. The dentist showed us how to brush properly using special disclosing tablets that turned our teeth different colours to show where we had missed!

We learned about how sugar can affect our teeth and why it’s important to brush twice a day. Everyone had a turn brushing their teeth with the dentist’s help to see how we could improve our brushing.

All the children were very excited to receive a goody bag to take home, filled with toothbrushes, toothpaste, timers, disclosing tablets to help keep our smiles bright and healthy at home too!

Thank you to Bramcote for visiting us.

Autumnal Wellie Walk

Pippin Class headed into the great outdoors for their autumnal wellie walk. We had great fun looking at all the beautiful leaves that are changing colour, and spotting other signs of autumn like conkers and apples on trees. We even found a muddy patch that was brilliant to squelch and squish in!

As we walked, we found a horse chestnut tree which had lots of conkers underneath. We enjoyed collecting them for our classroom. When we got to the middle of the village, we spent some time looking at the local church and talked about all the celebrations we have there.

Throughout the whole walk our KS1 children were directing us using the maps they had created of our village in our Geography lessons. They were able to identify the key features on their map and correlate them with where we were in the village.

What a fabulous time!

PCSOs Visit Pippin

This week Pippin Class were lucky enough to have a visit from our local PCSO team. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the important roles our local police officers play in keeping our community safe.

They were fascinated to explore the different pieces of equipment officers use and even had the exciting opportunity to hear a radio message!

Everyone loved going outside to see the police car up close and watch its lights in action. The children were eager to learn about the tools and resources officers carry in their vehicles and how they use them to help others.

A big thank you to our local officers for taking the time to visit and inspire our young learners.

That's The Way We Do It!

For our Learning Experience hook day, Pippin Class had an exciting beach day! We made our own homemade icecream, built sandcastles and learnt about seaside holidays in the past. We also watched a Punch and Judy show.

We wrote up our instructions on how we made our ice cream so that our families could re-create our ice cream at home too.

Here is our ice cream recipe:

In the afternoon, once our ice cream was ready, we had the opportunity to try the flavours with cones. We all tried the vanilla and chocolate, before deciding which was our favourite flavour. Chocolate was the most popular!

Wonderful Puppets

As part of our recent Design and Technology project, Pippin Class were tasked with designing and making their own glove puppet. Before we could start making them, the children had to learn how to sew, which was a new skill for many. The children learnt how to over stitch and also create a running stitch - it took a lot of practice!

Once we felt confident with our skills, we began creating our puppets. They looked absolutely fantastic!

Gingerbread Baking!

Pippin Class have been busy following instructions and measuring ingredients to make their own gingerbread men! Having read the story, the children felt inspired and so we decided to make them! Luckily these gingerbread men didn't run away!

History of Lovington Visitor

As part of our history lesson we went on a tour around our school looking to see if we could identify any features we think are new, and anything that was older. We looked carefully at some old images too to give us some clues.

Later on Mrs Dycer came in to talk to us about her experience here as a student at Lovington Primary School. She kindly shared lots of photos and information that helped us to answer part of our enquiry question “Is there any difference between our school today and in the time of your parents?”

We were able to look for similarities and differences between now and back when Mrs Dycer was at school. Mrs Dycer was an eyewitness which means she is a reliable source of information about the school.

Mother's Day Afternoon Tea

On Monday, Pippin Class hosted a Mother's Day afternoon tea for their families. The children shared poems, sang songs and enjoyed delicious scones and cakes with the special ladies in their lives.

The children created heart wreaths and craft bouquets to take away.  It was such a lovely afternoon!

Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Courageous Advocates of Lovington!

Pippin Class shared their thoughts with our local parish councillors on why we should have a park in the village. From community building to habitats for wildlife, safe places to ride bikes or simply somewhere to have fun, they'd thought of it all!

Meeting with the councillors, the children shared their own designs for the new park, justifying their reasons as to why they'd added certain features, including bins, toilets and other practicalities. The parish councillors were incredibly impressed with the designs the children had created and at how well they communicated their ideas too.

Visit to Bristol Aquarium

To start our new learning experience, Into the Deep, Pippin Class visited Bristol Aquarium. The children were able to have a guided tour by one of the marine biologists, who shared a huge range of information with us about the various fish and sea creatures they have.

We explored different ocean and water habitats, including coral reefs, shipwrecks, rock pools as well as rainforests.

We particularly enjoyed hearing about 'Shelia' (a giant grouper) the largest fish at the aquarium, and visiting the sharks and rays. All the children had the opportunity to feed the thick-lipped grey mullet, which gobbled up our fish food very quickly! It was fantastic to watch.

Delicious Fruit Salads

Pippin Class have been using their newfound cutting, grating and peeling skills to design, make and evaluate their own fruit salads. The children wrote their list of ingredients and thought about how they could creatively present their design.

They looked and tasted DELICIOUS!

Cutting, Peeling and Grating Skills

We have been practising our food preparation skills in our Design & Technology sessions. We learnt all about using bridges and claws to safely cut our fruits and vegetables. We used different equipment, such as peelers, graters and knives to prepare the food.

Superhumans!

Pippin Class had two very special visitors today, Sam and Ted. With the help of Sam's very accident-prone Ted, the children learnt about cuts and grazes, head bumps and that poorly people need to be placed on their side and of course how to call 999, but only if needed.

It was a FANTASTIC day, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt a lot.

Sam said "I can hand on heart say I had the loveliest session at Lovington Primary, the children were beautifully behaved and I'm so impressed with how well they picked up everything taught.

A Miracle in Town

Pippin Class presented their nativity "A Miracle in Town' on Wednesday, it was lovely to see so many parents and grandparents in school. The children performed brilliantly, filling the hall with their wonderful singing as well as projecting their voices so clearly with such expression.

Royal Navy STEM Visit

Pippin Class had a visit from Yeovilton's Royal Navy STEM team. Tom and Sam came in to speak to us about flight and how planes fly. We learnt about planes' drag, thrust, lift and weight and got to build our very own gliders to demonstrate the forces.

We also learnt about how the rotor blades work on a helicopter by watching a remote-control helicopter. It was amazing to see the forces in action!

They also shared lots of interesting facts about their jobs, including how they got started in Avionics.
