    Mother's Day Afternoon Tea

On Monday, Pippin Class hosted a Mother's Day afternoon tea for their families. The children shared poems, sang songs and enjoyed delicious scones and cakes with the special ladies in their lives.

The children created heart wreaths and craft bouquets to take away.  It was such a lovely afternoon!

Thank you to everyone who joined us!

    Courageous Advocates of Lovington!

Pippin Class shared their thoughts with our local parish councillors on why we should have a park in the village. From community building to habitats for wildlife, safe places to ride bikes or simply somewhere to have fun, they'd thought of it all!

Meeting with the councillors, the children shared their own designs for the new park, justifying their reasons as to why they'd added certain features, including bins, toilets and other practicalities. The parish councillors were incredibly impressed with the designs the children had created and at how well they communicated their ideas too.

    Visit to Bristol Aquarium

To start our new learning experience, Into the Deep, Pippin Class visited Bristol Aquarium. The children were able to have a guided tour by one of the marine biologists, who shared a huge range of information with us about the various fish and sea creatures they have.

We explored different ocean and water habitats, including coral reefs, shipwrecks, rock pools as well as rainforests.

We particularly enjoyed hearing about 'Shelia' (a giant grouper) the largest fish at the aquarium, and visiting the sharks and rays. All the children had the opportunity to feed the thick-lipped grey mullet, which gobbled up our fish food very quickly! It was fantastic to watch.

    Delicious Fruit Salads

Pippin Class have been using their newfound cutting, grating and peeling skills to design, make and evaluate their own fruit salads. The children wrote their list of ingredients and thought about how they could creatively present their design.

    They looked and tasted DELICIOUS!

    Cutting, Peeling and Grating Skills

We have been practising our food preparation skills in our Design & Technology sessions. We learnt all about using bridges and claws to safely cut our fruits and vegetables. We used different equipment, such as peelers, graters and knives to prepare the food.

    Superhumans!

Pippin Class had two very special visitors today, Sam and Ted. With the help of Sam's very accident-prone Ted, the children learnt about cuts and grazes, head bumps and that poorly people need to be placed on their side and of course how to call 999, but only if needed.

It was a FANTASTIC day, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt a lot.

Sam said "I can hand on heart say I had the loveliest session at Lovington Primary, the children were beautifully behaved and I'm so impressed with how well they picked up everything taught.

    A Miracle in Town

Pippin Class presented their nativity "A Miracle in Town' on Wednesday, it was lovely to see so many parents and grandparents in school. The children performed brilliantly, filling the hall with their wonderful singing as well as projecting their voices so clearly with such expression.

    Royal Navy STEM Visit

Pippin Class had a visit from Yeovilton's Royal Navy STEM team. Tom and Sam came in to speak to us about flight and how planes fly. We learnt about planes' drag, thrust, lift and weight and got to build our very own gliders to demonstrate the forces.

We also learnt about how the rotor blades work on a helicopter by watching a remote-control helicopter. It was amazing to see the forces in action!

They also shared lots of interesting facts about their jobs, including how they got started in Avionics.
