  • Big Schools' Bird Watch

    This week Pippin Class participated in the annual Big Schools' Bird Watch for the RSPB. We began by learning about the different birds that we find in Britain, looking carefully at their structure, habitats and diets. We also listened to their different calls so that we could identify the birds even if we couldn't see them. We then went out into our school grounds to identify and classify the birds that we could see and marked them onto our recording sheets.

  • Space Adventures

    Pippin Class visited We The Curious in Bristol to explore and learn more about space. When we arrived, we explored some 'air' exhibits, where air is used to move objects such as balls, parachutes and hot air balloons.

  • Ecco Gelato and Sherborne Abbey

    Our oldest children had a fantastic morning in Sherborne visiting Ecco Gelato, where they were able to develop their Scientific knowledge on states of matter.  The children were able to watch the process of gelato being made and were able to try

    This week, the children have created their own Christingles. The afternoon began by learning about the importance of Christingles and what the different parts symbolise. The children then went on to make their own Christingles to take home.

  • We Three Kings!

  • Noah's Ark Zoo Farm

    As part of their Learning Experience 'Animal Antics', Pippin class went to Noah's Ark Zoo Farm for a fantastic day learning about a variety of animals at the zoo. 

    The day began with an informative classroom session with Tom, who spoke to the children about how animals are classified. Tom talked to the children about the 5 main animal classifications and gave examples for each. Afterwards, the children got to meet 'Charlotte' a cockroach and 'Lottie' a tortoise. All of the children had the chance to handle the animals too.

  • Football Tournament Report - Years 5 and 6

    On Tuesday 18th November, 10 children from Years 5 and 6 went to a football tournament at Buckler's Mead Academy.  In the first match, we won 6-0.  In our second match, we won 2-0.  Unfortunately, we lost the third match because the score was 1-0 to High Ham.  In our penultimate match, we lost against East Coker in the semi-finals.  In our last match, we were playing for 3rd place in the tournament but we lost 2-0.  We were playing against St Barts and we ended up in 4th place.  Everyone got a chance to play because we swapped subs between matches.  Surprisingly, we were the only team with girls.  Altogether, it was a fabulous afternoon and we can't wait for the next tournament.

  • Question Time with Sarah Dyke MP

    On Friday 14th November, our oldest children met their local MP, Sarah Dyke, for an inspiring visit.  She came to talk to the children about her role as a Member of Parliament, gave insightful answers to their thoughtful questions and shared ideas for making a real change in the local community.

  • Remembrance Day

    As part of our Remembrance Day commemorations, the whole school gathered at 11 o’clock to observe two minutes of silence in honour of those who have served. KS2 pupils also had the privilege of hearing from author Jacqueline King, who shared fascinating insights into how she researched and planned her novel A Cake for the Gestapo.

  • Russet's Art Hook Day

    Today, the children in KS2 enjoyed learning all about the works of Alce Harfield.
    They considered some of the techniques that she uses, including stippling, dabbing, splattering, and colour washing. Alce visited with some of her favourite pieces and was able to explain more about her techniques and inspirations.
    We are looking forward to seeing what our talented artists at Lovington will achieve over the coming weeks.

  • Brush! Brush! Brush!

    On Friday, Bramcote Dental Practice came to visit Pippin Class to teach us all about how to look after our teeth. The dentist showed us how to brush properly using special disclosing tablets that turned our teeth different colours to show where we had missed.
