    Spiritual, Moral, Social & Cultural

At Lovington C of E Primary, our children frequently take time to reflect on their beliefs through a number of ways. We have a very close relationship with our village church, St. Thomas A Becket and work closely with the Father Pip and the church wardens to forge strong community links.

Recently, the children wrote some Mother's Day prayers for the Mothering Sunday church service.

    Dear God,

Thank you for our Mums. They do some much for us. Washing, cooking, helping with homework and teaching us what is right and what is wrong,  but most importantly they love us. We thank all our mums that help us to grow and to learn. So always remember to thank your mum and tell them that you love them.

    Amen

    Cultural Capital

    What is cultural capital?

Cultural capital is the essential knowledge, skills, and experiences that children experience; such as visiting museums, learning about traditions, or developing vocabulary that enables children to become well rounded and successful citizens.

Our school is committed to ensuring that every pupil, regardless of background or starting point, develops the cultural capital they need to succeed in life. We recognise that cultural capital gives pupils the essential knowledge, experiences, language and confidence to become active, informed and responsible members of society.

Our broad and ambitious curriculum is designed to introduce pupils to a wide range of knowledge, skills and experiences that extend beyond their immediate environment. Through carefully planned learning experiences, we ensure that pupils develop a deep understanding of the world, including its history, cultures, arts, science and technology.

We place a strong emphasis on developing rich vocabulary and effective communication skills across all subjects. Through high-quality texts, structured discussion, storytelling, debate and oracy activities, pupils build the language and confidence required to articulate ideas and engage in meaningful dialogue.

Experiential learning plays a key role in developing cultural capital. Educational visits, visitors to school, workshops and themed curriculum hook days allow pupils to engage with the wider world and deepen their understanding of different cultures, professions and communities.

The arts, music, sport and creative opportunities are integral to our curriculum. Pupils are provided with opportunities to explore artistic expression, perform, collaborate and develop an appreciation of cultural traditions and achievements.

We also aim to broaden pupils’ aspirations by introducing them to a range of future pathways and careers. We do this through careers week, visitors to the school as well as leadership opportunities.
