The school was visited by Peter from Better Planet Education. He spoke with Pippin class about bees and minibeasts, highlighting the importance of them for our environment. The children learnt lots of interesting facts, including how bees only live for 5–6 weeks, and how they choose a queen bee.
Russet class have visited Barton Hall in Torquay for their residential. The children enjoyed a wide range of activities, including the giant swing, abseiling, canoeing, and archery, embracing each challenge with enthusiasm and determination. In the evenings, they sang and danced around a campfire and thoroughly enjoyed the silent disco, creating lasting memories with their friends. It was wonderful to see how supportive they were of one another, how well they collaborated, and how consistently they demonstrated resilience, representing our school in such a positive and commendable way.
Our key stage 2 pupils recently took part in an exciting and enriching Survival Day at Carymoor Environmental Trust. The day provided a fantastic opportunity for children to develop practical outdoor skills, teamwork and resilience in a real-life context.
Throughout the day, pupils worked collaboratively to build shelters, learn fire-lighting techniques, read maps, filter water and explore how to survive in the natural environment. They demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills, communication and perseverance, particularly when faced with new and challenging tasks.
The experience also supported our wider curriculum, linking closely to our work on natural disasters and the survival guides that pupils are writing in English lessons. Pupils returned to school inspired, with a deeper understanding of how to stay safe in different environments and a wealth of ideas to support their writing.
Yesterday, the school was filled with the joy of books! Throughout the day, the children celebrated reading by
exploring their favourite stories, thinking about memorable characters and the exciting events that bring books to life.
They shared their own ideas through storytelling, took part in buddy reading with other classes, and used their
Oracy skills to present and discuss their stories with one another. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm for reading and their confidence in sharing their thoughts.
This week Pippin Class participated in the annual Big Schools' Bird Watch for the RSPB. We began by learning about the different birds that we find in Britain, looking carefully at their structure, habitats and diets. We also listened to their different calls so that we could identify the birds even if we couldn't see them. We then went out into our school grounds to identify and classify the birds that we could see and marked them onto our recording sheets.
Pippin Class visited We The Curious in Bristol to explore and learn more about space. When we arrived, we explored some 'air' exhibits, where air is used to move objects such as balls, parachutes and hot air balloons.
This week, the children have created their own Christingles. The afternoon began by learning about the importance of Christingles and what the different parts symbolise. The children then went on to make their own Christingles to take home.
Over the past few weeks, Pippin Class have been practising tirelessly to perform their Nativity ‘We Three Kings’ to their families and school community. They had such great fun learning their lines, songs and dance routines.
As part of their Learning Experience 'Animal Antics', Pippin class went to Noah's Ark Zoo Farm for a fantastic day learning about a variety of animals at the zoo.
The day began with an informative classroom session with Tom, who spoke to the children about how animals are classified. Tom talked to the children about the 5 main animal classifications and gave examples for each. Afterwards, the children got to meet 'Charlotte' a cockroach and 'Lottie' a tortoise. All of the children had the chance to handle the animals too.
